At Last
[4:35]
With this recording, we bravely go where many others have gone, but none as well as Etta James. Etta turned this Tin Pan Alley tune into "The Classic" definitive RnB ballad. Our recording features John Wilkinson on the trumpet intro and Mike Crouch on the baritone sax solo.

Last Night
[2:24]
The Stax sound has been a big inspiration for Rhythm Congress, and we love this early recording by Steve Cropper, Donald Duck Dunn and other members of the Stax house band team when they called themselves The Mar-Kays. Our recording features solos by John Wilson (alto sax) and David King (guitar).

Funky Broadway
[3:11]
Although RC covers many Wilson Pickett tunes, only this one made it onto this collection. But it is one of the best. And we think the best recording by Wilson was from his live show in Ghana.

Hide Nor Hair
[3:10]
This tune was recorded by Ray Charles in RnB/Latin mode; the tight harmonies in the horn section and the clever lyrics make it a classic.

The Dark End Of The Street
[3:18]
Dan Penn wrote this tune, which was first recorded by James Carr. The tune has since become a soul classic and was featured in The Commitments. Our version includes a tasty tenor sax solo by Shon Saliga.

She Caught The Katy
[3:31]
You may recognize this tune as the opening tune from the first Blues Brothers movie. It was written by Taj Mahal. Katy refers to the Texas railway line and the "mule" that she left me to ride is a railroad term for the hand operated rail car -- the kind you pump up and down. We like all that history -- plus the tune flat rocks. Listen for our horns' imitation of a train sound in the last verse.

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
[3:40]
This tune was first recorded by Cannonball Adderly before it was a top 40 hit by the blue-eyed soul group The Buckinghams. Our recording features a great trumpet solo by John Wilkinson.

I Want To Ta-Ta You Baby
[6:36]
Texan Johnnie Guitar Watson was one of the most versatile players of all time. His compositions ranged from outrageous funk to this song, one of the hippest, smoothest, jazziest RnB ballads ever made. We hope we do it justice.

Is You Is Or Is You Aint My Baby?
[4:06]
Some say Louie Jordan was the first rhythm and blues artist. Here is a Louie Jordan classic. Apologies for the grammer. And more apologies for Walt (Ringo) Brewer, who sings the second verse for us with an inimitable style that is all his own.

Teenie Weenie Bit
[5:53]
This tune was written by Texan Roy Head (from San Antonio). Roy's more famous blue-eyed RnB tune is "Treat Her Right," but we like the funky Lousiana beat of this tune. Our recording features solos by Shon Saliga (tenor sax), David King (guitar), John Wilkinson (trumpet) and Mike Crouch (baritone sax).

Pushin' On The Pull Bar
[5:55]
The Scabs are a notorious Austin, Texas party band. Here is one of the few Scabs tunes with lyrics that are not rated "X". When our guitar player David King suggested that our band tackle this tune, the horn players looked at him like "...you got to be jokin..." (to quote the tune). The horn parts rock. Check it out.

Twenty-Five Miles
[3:40]
When Whitey Conwell joined Rhythm Congress he and Cliff Ernst dicovered that they shared a passion for this classic soul tune by recorded by Edwin Starr. And audiences have loved the combination of the RC fully loaded horn section with lead vocals by Whitey and backing vocals by David, Paul and Cliff layed over Walts funky drumming. This is a live recording from RC's recent show at La Zona Rosa in Austin.

Tighten Up
[4:15]
This tune was created, as everybody who knows this music can tell you, by Archie Bell and The Drells "from Houston, Texas". Our version features our drummer Walt Brewer on vocals. We recorded this live in one take in our studio (no over-dubs), proving that Walt can sing as good as he drums and not miss a beat. Good work Walt!

This song was first recorded by Don Covay & the Goodtimers, although most recognize it because of its cover by Aretha Franklin. Its funky bass line, played by Paul, and its punchy horn riffs, work great for our band.

Wrap It Up
[2:42]
We like this tune because it has Memphis roots (Sam and Dave had a hit with it) and a Texas connection (ZZ Topp). And like almost all of our tunes, it shows off the horn section well.
